I Took My Fiancé to Visit My Parents — He Ran Out Screaming ‘I Can’t Believe It!’ in the Middle of the Night

Cranky Old Lady

After six years of dating, my fiancé and I were set to tie the knot next month. But when he learned about my parents’ covert lifestyle, he began to doubt our relationship as well. Although we have known one other for nine years, my fiancé and I have been together for six. The plan was for us to tie the knot the following month, but unforeseen circumstances intervened.

Before the wedding, we went to see my parents to introduce him to additional members of my extended family. For nostalgic reasons, we have been staying in my former room since my parents consented to host us. Adam, my fiancé, preferred to stay at a hotel, but I felt it would be entertaining to simply have him stay in my former room. While we were packed for the trip, Adam said to me, “I do not see why visiting in your childhood house is going to improve anything.”

Because before I am married, this will be my last visit with my parents under their roof. It is going to be a nostalgic occasion,” I answered. He remarked nonchalantly, “I am just going to check myself into a hotel if it gets unpleasant.” Naturally, I had no idea what was going to happen next. Everyone was thrilled to see us when we arrived at my parents’ house. With a lavish dinner prepared, my mother and aunt were eager for us to sit down and get to know Adam better.

Everything went according to plan throughout dinner, and Adam was content to be the focus of attention. As we worked on the dishes in between the main course and dessert, he remarked, “This is new for me.” “I am not used to being paid this much attention by individuals.” “It is a positive thing,” I said while giving him a dish. “With my family, too, you should feel at home and welcome. “Adam kept getting in the way of my sleep as the evening wore on and we all went to bed, hoping for a restful night’s sleep before our family’s trip to the nearby theme park the next day.

“What is happening?” I turned to face him and asked. I had just drifted back to sleep when Adam’s shriek shattered the silence. My heart was pounding so hard in bed that I jumped up. What in the world was happening? Was there a person living there? Did we face any danger? My mind was racing, trying to figure out what to do next, when Adam barged back into the room. “What took place?” Uneasy, I blurted out. My fiancé’s expression twisted into a horror-filled rage, pausing for a minute before launching into a tirade.

“It is unbelievable,” he exclaimed. “Your mother! Sasha! Your mom! In the entryway, she is giving another man a kiss.” My heart fell. Without this, I had hoped that we could have made it through the entire visit. If anything, I had always looked forward to this day, the moment when my parents’ strange and nontraditional marriage would finally begin.
