Despite his wealth, Brody had a cold heart. He was a ruthless and avaricious individual who denigrated his employees and showed no concern for their difficulties. However, after a fire consumed everything he possessed, Brody was forced to face the hard reality that his money was insufficient to keep him safe from himself. Narrowing his eyes as he examined the work of his staff, Brody strode around his restaurant as if he owned the place. He did not appear to find anything satisfying. With a strong, demanding voice, he gave them orders by barking.

Reminding his employees that nothing they accomplished was ever good enough, the statements reverberated throughout the kitchen and eating area. He detested them, these servers and chefs who, in his opinion, had accomplished nothing. How could somebody be happy working at such a menial job? He shook his head, thinking. Because he believed they were failures, he never appreciated them. Brody felt so much better than everyone around him, even though he had inherited the restaurant from his father and had never worked a day in his life. As Brody entered the kitchen, he overheard Cory and Michael having a quiet conversation. Cory appeared anxious, but Michael appeared to be comforting him.

“He is not going to let it happen,” Cory remarked, shaking his head. “Let us try,” Michael said in response. “What is it that I refuse to permit?” As he got closer to them, Brody’s voice pierced the atmosphere. Brody’s gaze grew strained. “Do not bother coming back if you leave that door a minute before your shift expires. Then perhaps your ill daughter will not have anything to eat,” Brody sternly said before turning to walk away.

He heard Michael murmur as he left, “What an asshole.” Brody furrowed his brow. “It seems like people no longer want to work,” he thought, shaking his head. Brody shut up the place after the last customer left and hauled himself upstairs to his apartment. He was unaffected by the fact that the room usually seemed too large for one person. The restaurant is located downstairs, and the house is above, a creation entirely of his father. For something that he had not even touched, Brody was proud of it.

After grabbing the remote and settling down on the couch, he spent many hours flipping through stations without any thought. At last, he turned off the TV and got into bed since he was tired. Though it came soon, sleep was brief. He was startled awake in the middle of the night by a blast of heat.Brody sat up, confused, and smelled smoke. He was overcome with panic when he saw the building was on fire.
