More than twenty years after the September 11, 2001 attacks, previously unreleased video shows the Twin Towers collapsing. The video was shot by Kei Sugimoto, who just released it after finding old cassettes in his closet. A Reddit user said, “It is unbelievable that we are almost 23 years out and yet getting new footage.” A rare perspective of the towers crumbling from the north is provided by Sugimoto’s video, which was taken from the roof of a building at 64 St Marks Place in New York City.
One user said that the video offers a “unique perspective not seen from the south or east” as it shows the towers billowing with smoke before crashing. The video was released on July 23, 2023, and it has since sparked a lot of conversation online. One user observed, “Makes me wonder how much history is being stored in people’s attics or basements waiting to be unearthed.”
By making this footage public, Sugimoto not only gives 9/11 a fresh visual aspect but also fortifies the public’s remembrance of an occasion that helped to define the twenty-first century.
