I Don’t Believe In Tipping In Restaurants. There, I Said It.

Talking about tipping in restaurants is something that many people have different opinions on. Some think it’s nice to leave extra money for the people who serve us, while others, like you, think it’s not necessary. Sharing your thoughts can lead to a fun discussion about how important good service is and how people should be paid fairly for their work. Some people believe that tipping is a nice way to say “thank you” to workers, like waiters, for doing a good job.

In many places, especially in the US, waiters don’t make much money from their regular wages, so tips help them make more money. But this makes some people wonder: why should waiters rely on tips from customers instead of getting a good wage to begin with? You think differently than many people about tipping. You believe that everyone who works should be paid fairly for what they do. So, tipping might just be a quick fix for a bigger problem: that some workers aren’t getting paid enough.

In some places, when you pay for food at a restaurant, the price already includes money for the people who serve you, which seems fairer and easier to understand. Sometimes when you go to a restaurant and tip, it can be a little tricky.  The waiter may not always be the one who prepares the food or decides how things work at the restaurant. So, if your food isn’t good, it might not be the waiter’s fault. If you leave a low tip because of that, it might not be fair to the waiter, right? Some people think that if waiters don’t get tips, they might not try as hard to help customers.

But others believe that paying workers good money for their work will make them work even better. The main issue is how we view and appreciate the work that people do to help us. Ultimately, deciding whether or not to tip is up to each person and reflects how they feel about work and fairness. Rather than thinking of it as just a quick paycheck, it’s an opportunity to think about how we want restaurant workers to be paid.
