Ever since Donald Trump came into office for his second term, there has been a lot of news surrounding him and the decisions that he makes. This is not only true of him directly, it is also true of those who support him at his job.
One of those who works with the White House closely is Karoline Leavitt. As the White House Press Secretary, she is the face that is often seen at news conferences and she has been a firm supporter of the Trump administration.
On occasion, she will stand up for what she has to say to the point where it actually steps on other’s toes to a certain extent. She might not get the heat that Donald Trump gets, but she does have some coming in her direction on occasion.
This was seen recently when she took a jab at former Pres. Joe Biden. He was giving a speech, which was a rare public appearance for him and he was discussing Social Security. Leavitt had something to say about it, and it wasn’t exactly the nicest thing to say.
27-year-old Karoine Leavitt is not only a loyalist for the Trump administration, she is also the youngest Press Secretary that has stood at the podium in US history. When she was asked about the speech that Joe Biden gave, she didn’t pull any punches. She said: “My first reaction when seeing former President Biden was speaking tonight was, I’m shocked that he is speaking at nighttime. I thought his bedtime was much earlier than his speech tonight.”
That was an obvious poke at Joe Biden’s age, and social media was quick to jump on the subject. After she said it, she went on to make a statement that was more focused on policy, but it didn’t stop people from focusing on what she said at first.
Essentially, she said that the Trump administration was going to protect Social Security. She said: “President Trump is absolutely certain about protecting Social Security benefits for law-abiding, tax-paying American citizens and seniors who have paid into this program.
“He will always protect this program. He campaigned on it. He protected it in his first term, and he’s back again to continue protecting it.”
Perhaps that was the gist of the matter, but people were more interested in what she said about Joe Biden’s age. Many people were calling it rude, immature, or disrespectful. Even those who admit that they didn’t care for Joe Biden as the president were still not happy with what she said. Even some people who are fans of the White House Press Secretary said that she crossed the line. Essentially, they were even pointing out the fact that her husband is in the same boat, as he is much older than her.
In Joe Biden’s speech, he did talk about the state of Social Security. He was speaking at a conference hosted by the Advocates, Counselors, and Representatives for the Disabled (ACRD) in Chicago. He said: “They want to let social security expire every five years – that was a proposal – unless re-authorized by the Congress. Who the hell do they think they are?”
He then went on to say: “Last time this guy had the job he raised the debt ceiling because of an enormous and profligate tax to the super wealthy.” Biden was sharp with his words on the Trump administration, criticizing the layoffs at the Social Security Administration and talking unfavorably about the Department of Government Efficiency. Musk has even referred to Social Security as ‘the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time.’ In the end, Biden’s speech touched a nerve for many, especially those who rely on Social Security to get by from month-to-month. It also seemed to have touched a nerve for one White House Press Secretary who decided to strike back.
