According to CNN Brazil, the flood occurred as a result of heavy rain that struck the municipality of Uberlândia in the Triângulo Mineiro region of Brazil.

In the video, Martins and her husband, Wallison Lima, are seen clinging to the car as deep, rushing waters surround them. An unidentified woman who poked out of a nearby window attempted to help the couple by extending a ladder toward them.

The video showed the woman struggling to reach Lima and Martins as they grappled with the strong current. Soon after the tragedy ensued, Lima took to Instagram Stories to express his devastation after having lost his beloved wife. He shared a beautiful photo of the duo, where he was seen smiling widely with his arm around Martins, who smirked and pouted for the camera.

Lima attached a tear jerking message to his picture written in Portuguese (which has been loosely translated to English). “My love, how much I miss you. It’s not easy here, I don’t know what to do without you. I’m lost, without direction, without ground. You are my everything,” began the widower. November 27, the heartbroken husband shared an Instagram video in which he addressed Martins’ passing. After greeting his followers and noting how challenging it was for him to make a video about the tragedy, Lima explained that the only reason he made the video was out of respect for those offering condolences. He went on to extend his gratitude for all the messages of support and prayers for Martins that have been sent his way and apologized to the people he hasn’t been able to respond to.

“I came to make this video here in respect for her because I know that she wanted me to do it,” explained Lima in Portuguese. He apologized for how he was speaking, explaining that while he wanted to say more, Martins would have wanted him to handle it the way he did. Lima then highlighted the fact that he and Martins had been together for years before stating, “And God comforts the heart of everyone who takes the time to send a message, to say a prayer, okay?”
