There have been many actresses who have entertained us over the years but Kirstie Alley is one who was gone far too soon. She was famous for being on the television show Cheers, as well as in the Look Who’s Talking films.
Unfortunately, Kirstie Alley passed away in 2022 at the age of 71. She had many famous friends that she had gained over the years, but one, who was also a costar was John Travolta.
Kirstie Alley and John Travolta were in the ‘Look Who’s Talking’ movies but that wasn’t the first time that Kirsty showed up in a movie or TV. In 1982, she was in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn, and was also in the 80 sitcom, Cheers.
Kirsty was chosen to replace Shelley Long, and she ended up winning an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her role as Rebecca Howell. She also played Sally Goodson in ‘David’s Mother’ and was in a number of other shows and miniseries.
It wasn’t just the work that she did in front of the camera, she also had a career offscreen as well. She published a book about struggling with her weight and produced a reality TV show. Eventually, she would compete on Dancing With The Stars for two seasons and lose some 100 pounds.
Allie had two children, True and Lillie when she was married to Parker Stevenson. True was adopted in 1992 and Lillie was adopted in 1995.
Those children released a statement after their mother passed away from cancer. It said: “We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered.”
The post was accompanied by a picture of Alley with a big smile on her face. He continued: “She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead. As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.”
Many people paid tribute to Alley, including John Travolta. He went on Instagram to share some words for his friend and a throwback picture.
He wrote: “Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had. I love you Kirstie. I know we will see each other again.” A clip was also posted of them dancing in Look Who’s Talking. They were good friends and she was never shy about how much she cared for him. In a 2018 interview, she wrote: “I almost ran off and married John. “I did love him. I still love him. If I hadn’t (have) been married, I would have gone and married him.”
She went on to say: “It would have been in an airplane. Because he has his own. And let me tell you girls, it doesn’t seem like it’s important that someone has a private jet, but it is. As you get older, you do not want to hang out in airports.” She also mentioned that they would’ve had troubles because they were so much alike. She said: “John and I would have devoured each other… It would be like two blazing stars that just fizzled out.” In the end, it’s just nice to know that friendship can stand the test of time.
